Izmir, with a population of over 4.3 million, has only 13 charging stations and 14 planned routes, a ratio that suggests the city is in the early stages of EV infrastructure development. For daily driving, this sparse network likely forces most EV owners to rely on home or workplace charging, as public stations are too few to support spontaneous trips across the metropolitan area. The 14 routes, while providing some intercity connectivity, do little to alleviate the scarcity within the city itself. Turkey’s normal climate imposes minimal range penalties, so battery performance is not a limiting factor here. However, with an estimated EV count of zero, the current infrastructure may be a response to anticipated demand rather than existing need. Without a significant expansion of charging points, Izmir will struggle to accommodate even a modest fleet of electric vehicles, making it a challenging environment for current or prospective EV owners.
