With a population of 1.6 million, Fukuoka has only four public charging stations, a count that is severely inadequate for supporting daily electric vehicle use across such a large urban area. The 16 planned routes connecting to or from the city suggest growing regional interest in EV travel, but the current infrastructure cannot sustain routine commuting or errand-driving for residents. Normal climate conditions in Fukuoka do not significantly degrade battery range, which is a positive factor, yet the near-zero estimated EV count indicates that the lack of chargers is a primary barrier to adoption. Without a substantial increase in station density, most drivers would face impractical charging logistics, relying on home or workplace outlets that remain scarce in dense Japanese cities. The route count implies potential for future connectivity, but until the station count rises by an order of magnitude, Fukuoka’s EV readiness remains fundamentally low for daily driving needs.
