Spain’s EV charging infrastructure is concentrated in a few major urban hubs, with Barcelona leading at 443 stations, followed by Madrid with 275, then Santander at 124, Palma at 108, and Malaga at 107. This distribution means that drivers in the capital and Catalonia’s largest city have relatively good access, while other regions may face thinner coverage. The country’s mixed climate, ranging from Mediterranean warmth to cooler Atlantic conditions, does not present the extreme battery range challenges seen in purely cold or hot climates, but temperature variation still affects efficiency. Dominant networks include Iberdrola, Repsol, and Endesa, with Ionity also present for high-speed corridor charging along major routes. The 4,799 total stations across 16 cities and 116 routes suggest a developing but not yet dense network; intercity travel requires careful route planning, especially in less populated areas. Station density per city remains modest outside the top five, implying that while urban EV use is increasingly viable, long-distance trips across Spain demand reliance on a limited number of fast-charging corridors.
