EV charging analysis
Dubai’s EV charging infrastructure, with only 31 stations serving a population of over 3.3 million, remains sparse for a city of its scale and ambition. The complete absence of planned routes to or from the city further limits practical daily driving, as residents cannot rely on connected corridors for longer commutes or intercity travel. The hot climate compounds this challenge, as sustained high temperatures can reduce battery efficiency and accelerate degradation, making reliable access to charging even more critical. With an estimated 8,400 EVs on the road, the station-to-vehicle ratio is roughly one station per 271 cars, which is insufficient for seamless daily use. While Dubai is positioned as a glamour EV city, its current charging network does not yet match the convenience expected by drivers, particularly for those without home charging. Expansion of both station density and route connectivity will be essential to support the city’s growing EV adoption and mitigate climate-related range concerns.
