With a population of 390,000, Polokwane currently has zero public charging stations, which presents a significant barrier to EV adoption. The nine planned routes connecting to or from the city suggest that regional connectivity is being prioritized, but these routes do not yet provide any local charging infrastructure for daily driving. In a hot climate, battery range can be reduced by up to 20 percent due to increased cooling demands, making the absence of charging points even more critical for practical use. Without any estimated EVs on the road, the city remains in a pre-adoption phase where infrastructure must precede vehicle uptake. Residents relying on EVs for daily commutes would currently have no option to charge publicly, forcing dependence on home charging. The planned routes indicate future potential for intercity travel, but until stations are built within the city, Polokwane is not ready for widespread EV use.
